pr_logoWelcome to Porter Ridge Athletic Association

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting the Porter Ridge Athletic Association(PRAA) web site and introduce you to our sports program. The PRAA was created to afford the children and parents of Western Union county an opportunity to participate and compete in a variety of sports. Over the years, the PRAA has grown to more than 1,200 families serving over 2000 children. On behalf of the Board of Directors and parents of Porter Ridge, I want to thank all the volunteers that help shape the minds and bodies of our youth. Furthermore, it needs to be emphasized that all personnel within the PRAA are dedicated volunteers who give of their time and themselves to make your child's athletic experience positive and memorable.

The primary goal of the PRAA is that all of our children be afforded an opportunity to participate in instructional, recreational, and competitive athletics. Currently, the PRAA offers 7 sporting activities where young athletes may participate. Many of these sports offer different levels of athletic competition, ranging from developmental, recreational through select-level play, so that a wider range of children may take advantage of the different levels of competition. The PRAA primary vision is to produce young adults who understand and display the meaning of leadership, discipline, integrity, hard work, and personal courage. Along with this experience, we hope to teach our athletes how to win with pride and accept defeat with dignity; a lesson we hope they will carry with them through life.

Please explore our web site and if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me or any member of our Board of Directors. As always, we will be happy to assist you.

Sincerely,
Danny Fesmire
President, Porter Ridge Athletic Association

Policy on Recruiting

In the past year, we have had a few instances of members leaving the organization and starting their own organization or team, independent of PRAA and in direct conflict of the sports offered by PRAA. Those members then used the resources they had from the PRAA database and tried to recruit our current members to their organization.

As a result the Board of Directors has set up guidelines defining what does and does not constitute recruiting, and the consequences if a member does recruit.

If you, as a member choose to place your child(ren) in another organization, that is your prerogative. We hope to see you and your family again, but understand this is a personal decision. This also applies if you are or were a coach for us and choose to coach for another organization.

However, it is not acceptable if you choose to go to another organization and then proceed to contact PRAA members in an attempt to persuade them to move to your new organization. This recruitment historically has involved a prior coach or board member starting a new enterprise. The member then contacts the people on their old teams, with resources that were made available to them by PRAA, i.e. e-mails, phone trees.

In the past year, these recruitment practices have resulted in teams being depleted and members being harassed. As a result the children are disappointed and parents are upset.

The Board of Directors has determined that if a member is found responsible for recruiting that member will be banned from membership permanently. This member will also be banned from the premises permanently. This determination will be made on a case by case basis by the Board of Directors based on facts presented and testimony of those involved.

This is a serious offense which results in a serious consequence. We all work hard to provide your family a great place to participate in recreational sports. We do not want the actions of a few to spoil your experience with PRAA.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me or any member of the PRAA Board.

I appreciate your time.

Sincerely, Danny Fesmire President PRAA
